UK invoice template

Every UK invoice has the same six legal requirements. Below is a template that includes all of them, plus the practical extras — VAT lines, bank details, and late-payment language.

Last updated May 2026Reviewed against UK gov.uk sources

UK invoices don't need to be pretty, but they do need to be specific. HMRC and your client both rely on the same details — a unique sequential number, a clear issue and due date, both parties' details, VAT if you're registered. Get those right and you'll be paid faster and audited less.
